How to measure correctly to find out your body shape
There are 3 measurements you need to take correctly and in the right spot to give you an accurate result
BUST- Stand up straight and wrap the measuring tape around your back and across the fullest part of your breasts. Don't Squish
WAIST-wrap around the smallest part of your waist, just above your belly button and below your rib cage
HIPS- Measure below your hip bone at the fullest part and across the largest part of your bottom, usually 7-9 inches below natural waistline.
There are typically six body shapes but countless variations of them. The famous duo Trinny and Susannah have classified over 16 types. They are all really variations and combinations of the original six. It is rare that we are exactly one body shape. I am a combination of a small hourglass and Pear.
So what is the point? The point is the measurements give you an idea of the shape of your body and makes you more aware what styles and outfits work better to flatter your figure. There are rules to help you dress to make you feel and look better but these rules are just a quidelines.
Beyonce is a typical Pear so she should stay away from skinny pants as it highlights her bottom but she ROCKS a pair of Skinny's and loves showing of her famous butt. So if you are not scared to flaunt it and are comfortable, then by all means break the rules and have fun.
WHICH ARE YOU?
TALL/COLUMN- Tall, straight up and down. No visible difference in measurements. Shoulders and hips equal size with no waist. usually thin with long limbs eg Nicole Kidman
HOURGLASS- Shoulders and hips are similar width set off by a much smaller waist. Curves, curves, curves. You can have neat hourglass with a smaller frame and bust eg Audrey Hepburn or a full hourglass with a super curvy figure eg Sofia Vergara
PEAR/TRIANGLE- narrow shoulders and small bust, tiny waist and fuller hips. Your hip width is wider than your bust and shoulders. eg Kim Kardashian
APPLE-Most of the weight accumulates above the hips, which are narrow. back, ribs and shoulders are broad eg Jennifer Hudson
INVERTED TRIANGLE/ATHLETIC-Broad shoulders, slight waist and very slim hips. Measurements are much larger on bust line than hip line. eg Cameron Diaz
RECTANGLE- Masculine and strong shape . Flat bottom, no waist. Straight up and down. A fuller and shorter version of the column. eg Kim Catrall
Whatever shape you are it is important to remember to celebrate and love your body.
